staple it shut.

i've been a vegaterian for oh, almost 20 years now.  i've been a vegan off an on for about a good 20% of the time.  i've lapsed into the cheese and ice cream world many times and blame it on things like "oh its impossible to be a vegan eating in the college cafeteria" or "i'm a poor 20someyearold" or "i don't know where the closest whole foods is".  yes, i am this lazy.

i probably would use the excuse "i like real cheese in my enchilada" for not being a vegan now, but the truth is, my body can no longer handle it.  i've beaten it up by given it not enough sleep, being an anti-palo dieter and eating anything with sugar, and drinking one too many cups of coffee and cans of coor's light and am finally seeing the effects it has on my body.  so with that, i am making my lazy ass a soy free vegan.  and this little blog here, well this is documentation for those days i pretend i don't know what i'm doing and threaten myself with a block of bree.

the basics.  i will make a post on the basic things i must always have.  screw the bread, butter, and milk crap.  hand me over my cup of steamed almond milk.

kitchen staple number uno:

like i said, screw cow's milk - its awful for you!  you are not to grow to 700lbs!  rice and almond milk at all times.

kitchen staple number 2:

regular peanut better is oh so good, but also oh so fattening.  earth balance has a great butter that is half peanuts, half coconut!  tastes sweet, easy to use, and oh so much better for you.

kitchen staple number 3:

since we are on the topic of earth balance, i will now add their soy free butter.  its like, the same thing - but again, no cow hormones!  no brainer.  on to the next!

kitchen staple number 4:

bulk raw cashews.  vegan cream cheese in the slow cooker?  cashew base.  a little milkshake in the vitamix?  throw em in.  its the base for everything.

kitchen staple number 5:

stevia.  i'm working on this potato over prozac sugar addiction thing, and this is step one of breaking away.  again, buy bulk, throw the rest in a $2 jar.

i say 5 is a good odd number.  more staples to the book later.  next: an easy vegan soy free meal.
